For the family business Maheu&Maheu, the pest management leader in the province, June not only marks the beginning of Summer... or the massive arrival of seasonal pests which triggers the most active period of the year! No, June marks its founding anniversary and this year the company celebrates their 90th birthday.
To kick-off festivities, all the employees and their spouses gathered at the Fairmont Manoir Richelieu during the first weekend of April. We were more than 250 at the banquet of Horace Award Ceremony, an annual event of recognition for the employees, 96 of whom are shareholders of the company. Top management also took this opportunity to present the Serge-Boutin Merits to the most deserving employees’ children. Everyone was happy to see each other again after 3 consecutive cancellations of this event while this year's theme was Physical Health (2nd part of a trilogy initiated under the theme of Mental Health in 2019 which will be completed by Financial Health in 2024).
With revenues exceeding $ 27 millions in 2022, Maheu&Maheu is the 2nd largest canadian owned company in the country and ranks 35th in the North American Top 100 list of May 2023.
The French version of Pest Management, ‘’gestion parasitaire’’, is now 25 years old
In an industry where prevention plays a leading role, exterminating or pest control were showing only one aspect of the work of the pest management specialist. In 1998, Maheu&Maheu dared to launch the term "gestion parasitaire" now widespread throughout the industry. "There is still work to be done to explain what we do because of the mysterious side related to our field but the public is gradually getting used to this relatively recent designation" said Michel Maheu, General manager. This designation takes on its full meaning as pesticide regulations multiply and ecological approaches come to the forefront. Remember that Maheu&Maheu began their green shift minimizing the use of pesticides in 1989, well before the advent of the vocabulary now associated with it.
The secret to last
Thinking long term, charting the course for the industry, fostering the development of human resources, optimizing operations and constantly renewing ourselves are all elements that contribute to the recipe. But the challenge is continuous for a leader because he must stay off the beaten path and constantly innovate. As the 4th generation looms on the horizon, Horace-A. would simply be amazed to see what has become of the business he started on du Pont Street in 1933.
